Leicester police have declared a ‘major incident’ after a ‘massive explosion’ at a shop this evening.
According to The Mirror, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a search and rescue operation is under way, after flames erupted from a property in Hinckley Road at around 7.10pm.
The Polish shop where the incident occurred was behind a bus stop, with a flat or other property above it.
The building was flattened by the blast, the cause of which is unknown, and a huge fire is currently underway with flames reaching higher than where the building stood can be seen for miles.
It is currently unknown if anyone was in the shop, a former Londis, now called Western Park Store, at the time.
